Command & Conquer: Tiberian Twilight, codenamed Command & Conquer 3, is the sequel to Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun that is yet to be completed. The project has started, but hasn't gotten passed the concept stages due to events at Westwood Studios and Electronic Arts.
Work is believed to have been started by Westwood Studios in 2002. At the time, Electronic Arts put the project on hold to allow for the development of Command & Conquer: Generals, much to the chagrin of devoted fans of the series who have long awaited the game. Just before Generals was released, EA announced that Westwood Studios in Las Vegas would be closing and would be consolidated into EA Los Angeles. This split the Westwood team, with some members quiting and the rest moving to Los Angeles to work at the new consolidated studio, effectively stopping the development of Tiberian Twilight.
To anger fans even more, in December 2004 after the EALA team settled down, Executive Producer and Command & Conquer lead Mark Skaggs announced in an unauthorized mass e-mail that the next Command & Conquer game would be Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3. A few months later, Skaggs was fired and plans for the Red Alert game have been scrapped. Westwood co-founder and EALA Vice President Louis Castle has become the new lead on Command & Conquer, giving more hope to fans who await Tiberian Twilight.
