Mean Time Between Overhaul

MTBO (engl. mean time between overhaul) ist die mittlere Zeitdauer zwischen zwei Überholungen von Geräten, Maschinen oder Motoren. MTBO dient als Maß für die Zuverlässigkeit von Geräten oder Anlagen. Je höher der MTBO-Wert, desto zuverlässiger sollte das Gerät sein. Ein Gerät mit einer MTBO von 100 Stunden wird also wahrscheinlich eher zur Überholung oder Reparatur anstehen, als ein ansonsten gleichartiges Gerät mit einer MTBO von 1.000 Stunden.

MTBF

MTBF (engl. mean time between failures) ist die mittlere Zeitdauer zwischen zwei Fehlern. MTBF dient als Maß für die Zuverlässigkeit von Geräten oder Anlagen. Umgangssprachlich wird der Begriff synonym zur MTTF (engl. mean time to failure) verwendet, jedoch bezieht sich MTTF auf ein System, welches nach einem Ausfall ausgetauscht wird. Die MTBF schließt nicht die MTTR (engl. mean time to repair) mit ein - diese bezieht sich nur auf die Zeit in der das System wieder repariert, also funktionsfähig, ist. Die MTBF fließt auch in die Berechnung der Verfügbarkeit (engl. Availability) ein, die angibt, wie groß die Wahrscheinlichkeit ist, dass ein System den spezifizierten Dienst anbietet:

Je höher der MTBF-Wert, desto zuverlässiger sollte das Gerät sein. Ein Gerät mit einer MTBF von 100 Stunden wird also wahrscheinlich eher kaputt gehen als ein ansonsten gleichartiges Gerät mit einer MTBF von 1.000 Stunden. Eine Festplatte hat eine typische MTBF von ca. 500.000 Stunden, was bei naiver Umrechnung 58 Jahren Dauerbetrieb entsprechen würde. Allerdings bezieht sich die MTBF auf die Anzahl aufsummierter fehlerfreier Betriebsstunden einer großen Menge Laufwerke (schon alleine, weil kein Hersteller vor dem Verkauf der Neuentwicklung diese jahrlang testen könnte). Insbesondere geht bei solch einer Hochrechnung die steigende Ausfallwahrscheinlichkeit im Laufe der Zeit durch Abnutzungserscheinungen nicht ein. Im Zusammenhang mit einem einzelnen Gerät gilt die naive Umrechnung der MTBF nur dann, wenn das Laufwerk regelmäßig nach seinem Service Life getauscht wird: "Wird in den Computer immer eine Festplatte mit 500.000 Stunden MTBF eingebaut und diese alle fünf Jahre getauscht, wird man 58 Jahre lang keinen Datenverlust erleben". Errechnet wird der Wert durch einen künstlichen Alterungsprozess, in dem das Gerät Strahlung, Feuchtigkeit, Erschütterungen, Hitze und Ähnlichem ausgesetzt wird. Konkret heisst das, dass zum Beispiel eine Maus auf einem Laufband 24h ununterbrochen betrieben wird, um zu schauen, wieviele Kilometer diese ohne Fehler zurücklegen kann. Die Tests sind nicht standardisiert, deshalb sind alle Werte relativ und vom Hersteller abhängig. Eine andere Möglichkeit der Ermittlung der MTBF ist die Berechnung. Dazu sind genaue Kenntnisse des Aufbaus des Gerätes und der verwendeten Bauelemente notwendig. Für viele Bauelemente existieren in Tabellen sogenannte Ausfallwahrscheinlichkeiten (oft auch als FIT, Failure in Time, bezeichnet). Die MTBF ergibt sich dann aus dem Kehrwert des (Gesamt) FIT der Baugruppe/Einheit. Der gesamte FIT ist die Summe der Einzel-FITs.. ähnliche Begriffe:

The Beehive (building)

The Beehive is the common name for the Executive Wing of the New Zealand Parliament Buildings, located at the corner of Molesworth Street and Lambton Quay, Wellington. Credit for the design is usually given to British architect Sir Basil Spence, who made a rough sketch on the back of a dinner napkin in 1964. The building was subsequently drafted and constructed by government departments and completed in 1981. The building is ten storeys (72 m) high. The top floor is occupied by the Cabinet offices, with the Prime Minister's offices on the floor immediately below. Other floors contain the offices of individual cabinet ministers. Other facilities within the building include function rooms such as a television studio, press theatre, and a banqueting hall, as well as service rooms, among which are the parliamentary catering facilities of Bellamy’s. The building also houses, in its basement, the country’s main civil defence headquarters. The Beehive's circular footprint is an elegant and attractive design feature. However it is also quite impractical, as many of its rooms are wedge-shaped or asymmetrical, with desks and other office furniture at awkward angles. The Beehive's brown roof is constructed from 20 tonnes of hand-welded copper. It has developed a naturally weathered appearance. During the 1990s, there was a proposal to physically move the Beehive so as to allow for the extension of the Parliament Buildings. The plan was never carried out. A tunnel leads from the building under Bowen Street, linking the Beehive with parliamentary offices in Bowen House. The Beehive is extensively decorated with New Zealand art, notably a large stained glass window in the foyer that commemorates the country's 150th anniversary in 1990.
