Hollywood Raw is an L.A. Guns album featuring previously unreleased recordings from 1987. Rerecorded versions of some of these songs later appeared on the L.A. Guns album L.A. Guns. Collector's Edition No. 1 has been rereleased as a bonus CD with this album.

L.A. Guns

L.A. Guns are a rock band from Los Angeles, California which came to prominence in the 1980s.

Music and image

The music of L.A. Guns is frequently associated with the L.A. hair metal scene which grew up around the Sunset Strip in the 1980s. The band was, however, also related to the "trash metal" genre, of which Guns 'N Roses (which once had 3 of the original L.A. Guns members) was the most prominent exponent, generally preferring an anti-social, white trash image to elaborate make-up and costumes. The music and image of L.A. Guns is often referred to as "sleaze". The band went in a different direction both musically and image wise on American Hardcore.

History

Axl Rose era

The first band to be called L.A. Guns were formed in 1983 by singer Axl Rose, guitarist Tracii Guns, bassist Ole Beich, and drummer Rob Gardner. Axl Rose had also been in the bands Axl, Rose, and Rapidfire. Axl Rose departs to form Hollywood Rose with Izzy Stradlin. In 1984 Axl, Tracii, and Rob left to form the band Guns N' Roses.

Michael Jagosz era

Michael Jagosz sang on the Collector's Edition No. 1 EP.

Paul Black era

Tracii later left Guns n' Roses to form a new band (Faster Pussycat) with Mick Cripps, and Nickey "Beat" Alexander and was replaced by the guitarist Slash. Rob Gardner also left Guns n' Roses and was replaced by Steven Adler; Guns n' Roses became very successful and made several platinum albums. The name L.A. Guns were owned by their friend Raz who offered to financially back this new group featuring Paul Black on vocals (The Mau Maus, The Joneses), Tracii Guns on guitar, Mick Cripps on bass, and Nickey Alexander (Lords Of The New Church and The Weirdos) on drums if they would play under the name L.A. Guns instead of Faster Pussycat, a name Mick Cripps used for his band in London, (which featured Nigel Mogg who would later join the London Quireboys).. So the name L.A. Guns, which had been abandoned for over a year, was adopted for this new band. The name Faster Pussycat was dropped and was picked up by their friend Taime Downe to start another great band. Soon after this line up formed they added guitarist Robert Stoddard who also played in Dogs D'Amour under the name Ned Christie and also recorded as a solo artist. LA Guns became a headline act on the club circuit in Los Angeles and San Francisco opening for acts such as The Lords of the New Church, Iggy Pop and Johnny Thunders. Robert Stoddard and Paul Black left before inking the deal and Nickey "Beat" Alexander was replaced after recording the first record but songs they left behind helped propel a new line up to success, and are lasting classics today. In 1988. Manager Allen Jones bought a ticket for his friend Phil Lewis to come to L.A. and replace Paul Black. All mentions of Paul's role in the band after that were merely that of a drug addict who happened to be in the band, nothing more. Paul Black went on to form another band (Black Cherry) but the vicious politics of the record industry surrounding his lawsuit against Polygram and his former band kept him from signing another deal. Nickey Alexander went on to join the Cramps. Robert Stoddard pursued a solo career.

First Phil Lewis era

With a lineup consisting of Kelly Nickels (ex Faster Pussycat and Sweet Pain) on bass, Mick Cripps (ex Faster Pussycat and Killer Elite) on guitar, Steve Riley (ex W.A.S.P.) on drums, Phil Lewis (ex Girl, New Torpedos, and Torme) on vocals, and Tracii Guns on guitar, the band released their self-titled debut album in 1988. Drummer Nickey "Beat" Alexander played on their self-titled debut album, although Steve Riley was in the band photo in the album's liner notes and was listed as a member, because he was by then a member of the band. This is the line up that the record label has promoted as the creaters of the music and what the public now knows as the classic L.A. Guns. The debut album went gold in the United States and Japan In 1989 the band released its second record, Cocked & Loaded, which features guest appearances from Cheap Trick members Robin Zander and Rick Nielson. On the strength of the hit single "The Ballad of Jayne," (#1 MTV request), the album went platinum. This was the first L.A. Guns album that Steve Riley actually played drums on. Tracii is recognized as an emerging guitar hero. Extensive touring headlining and opening for large arena acts such as ACDC, Def Lepard, Cheap Trick, Ted Nugent, Iron Maiden, Ozzy Osbourne, and Billy Squire. In 1991 the band released it's third album Hollywood Vampires which featured the song "Over the Edge" which was in the hit movie "Point Break". Top 50 single "Its Over Now" released. Appearances on the Rick Dee's "Into the Night" late night televsion show and the Arsenial Hall Show. Extensive touring throughout the U.S, Canada, Mexico, England, Europe, and Japan. Gold albums in the U.S. & Japan. Tour supporting Skid Row in Europe. Steve Riley is fired from group and replaced by drummer (MC Bones). Continued touring. In 1992 the band released the Cuts EP, featuring drummer MC Bones on two songs and drummer Steve Riley on three songs. More touring in U.S and South America. New drummer MP takes over from Bones for East Coast tour. When the band released its fourth album, Vicious Circle, featuring drummer MC Bones on several songs, in early 1995, they retained a core group of followers, yet it failed to capture the mainstream's attention;Kelly Nickels sang lead vocals on the song "Nothing Better To Do" and the album which was recorded with Producer Jim Wirt expanded the bands song writing and diversified their audience. MTV picked up on the video, "Long Time Dead". One final U.S. tour which features the return of drummer Steve Riley. After first few weeks of tour, guitarist/keyboardist Mick Cripps leaves group. A a long succession of line-up changes follows. In Early 1996, both singer Phil Lewis and bassist Kelly Nickels depart.

Chris Van Dahl era

1996's American Hardcore, which featured new lead vocalist Chris Van Dahl (ex Boneyard and Cherry Street) and new bassist Johnny Crypt (ex Boneyard), also achieved limited commercial success.

Ralph Saenz era

1998's Wasted EP featured singer Ralph Saenz with Tracii Guns and Steve Riley.

Jizzy Pearl era

1999's Shrinking Violet featured singer Jizzy Pearl and a guest appearance from former Guns N' Roses guitarist Gilby Clarke, who also produced the album.

Second Phil Lewis era

1999 also sees a re-union of the classic line-up to record Greatest Hits and Black Beauties for indie cleopatra records. A month long, well received reunion tour takes place which is followed by two more cleopatra releases Live: A Night on the Strip and Cocked & Re-Loaded featuring the classic line up of Phil Lewis, Tracii Guns, Mick Cripps, Kelly Nickels and Steve Riley. 2001's Man In The Moon features bassist Muddy. Bassist Adam Hamilton joined for Waking The Dead. Shortly after Waking The Dead, L.A. Guns parted with guitarist Tracii Guns, who was the only remaining original member of the band. The band went through several touring guitarists, including Steve Riley's former W.A.S.P. bandmate Chris Holmes, Keri Kelli, and Brent Muscat, before current guitarist Stacey Blades joined the band. Stacey Blades played on Rips the Covers Off and Tales from the Strip. Rumor has it that the first Guns N' Roses album was written by L.A. Guns, or was the rumor spreading around during the time of it's release.

LA Guns (album)

L.A. Guns is the name of the first official full length album of the band L.A. Guns. Drummer Nickey "Beat" Alexander played on this album, but his replacement Steve Riley is in the album's band photo and list of band members, because he was by then an official member of L.A. Guns. The album features several remakes, including "Hollywood Tease" (previously done by singer Phil Lewis's old band Girl), and "Shoot For Thrills" (previously done by bassist Kelly Nickels's old band Sweet Pain). Torme, which was one of Phil Lewis's pre-L.A. Guns bands, had previously recorded a song titled "Sex Action", but they are two different songs with the same title.

ಮಮ್ಮಿಗಳನ್ನು ಮಾಡಲು ಕಾರಣ
ಚರಿತ್ರಕಾರರ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ಪ್ರಾಚೀನ ಈಜಿಫ್ಟಿನ ಜನತೆ ಸಾವಿನ ನಂತರವೂ ಒಂದು ಜೀವನವಿರುತ್ತದೆ (Life After Death) ಎಂಬುದಾಗಿ ನಂಬಿದ್ದರು. ಹೀಗಾಗಿ ಮೃತ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ಆತನ ಮರಣಾ ನಂತರದ ಜಗತ್ತಿಗೆ ಸುರಕ್ಷಿತವಾಗಿ ತಲುಪಿಸಬೇಕು ಎಂಬ ಉದ್ದೇಶದಿಂದ ಮೃತ ದೇಹಗಳನ್ನು ಮಮ್ಮಿಗಳ ರೂಪದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂರಕ್ಷಿಸಿಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು ಎಂದು ತಿಳಿಯಲಾಗಿದೆ.
ಮಮ್ಮಿಗಳನ್ನು ತಯಾರಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ರೀತಿ
ಮೃತ ದೇಹಗಳನ್ನು ಮಮ್ಮಿಗಳನ್ನಾಗಿಸಲು ಈಜಿಫ್ಟಿಯನ್ನರು ವಿಶಿಷ್ಟವಾದ ಪದ್ಧತಿಯನ್ನು ಅನುಸರಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಈಜಿಪ್ಟಿನ ಪುರೋಹಿತರ (ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ ಗುರುಗಳು) ಸಮ್ಮುಖದಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಈ ಕ್ರಿಯೆ ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣವಾಗಲು ಸುಮಾರು ೭೦ ದಿನಗಳು ಹಿಡಿಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದವು.
- ಈಜಿಫ್ಟಿಯನ್ನರಿಗೆ ಮನುಷ್ಯನ ಬುಧ್ಧಿವಂತಿಕೆಯ ಕೇಂದ್ರ ಹೃದಯ ಮತ್ತು ಹೃದಯವೇ ಅತಿ ಮುಖ್ಯವಾದ ಅಂಗ ಎಂಬ ನಂಬಿಕೆಯಿತ್ತು. ಹಾಗಾಗಿ ಹೃದಯವೊಂದನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟು ಉಳಿದ ಅಂಗಾಂಗಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊರ ತೆಗೆಯಲಾಗುತ್ತಿತ್ತು.
- ಅವರ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ಮೆದುಳು ಅಂತಹ ಪ್ರಮುಖವಾದ ಅಂಗವೇನೂ ಆಗಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ, ಹಾಗಾಗಿ ಮೃತ ದೇಹದಿಂದ ಮೆದುಳನ್ನು ಮೂಗಿನ ಮೂಲಕ ಮೊದಲು ಹೊರತೆಗೆಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು.
- ನಂತರ ಹೊಟ್ಟೆಯ ಪಾರ್ಶ್ವದಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಸೀಳು ಮಾಡು, ಅಲ್ಲಿಂದ ಎದೆಯ ಭಾಗದ ಮತ್ತು ಹೊಟ್ಟೆಯ ಭಾಗದ ಅಂಗಗಳನ್ನೆಲ್ಲ (ಹೃದಯವೊಂದನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟು) ತೆಗೆದು ಹಾಕುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು.
- ಹೀಗೆ ಹೊರ ತೆಗೆಯಲಾದ ಇತರ ಅಂಗಗಳನ್ನು ಪ್ರತ್ಯೇಕವಾಗಿ ಸಂರಕ್ಷಿಸಲಗುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಂದು ಅಂಗಕ್ಕೂ ಒಂದೊಂದು ಪ್ರಾಣಿಯ ಅಕಾರವುಳ್ಳ ಈಜಿಫ್ಟಿಯನ್ ದೇವತೆಯ ಮುಖವನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿರುವ ವಿಶೇಷ ಭರಣಿಗಳನ್ನು ಸಿದ್ಧಪಡಿಸಿ ಅದರಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂರಕ್ಷಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಈ ಭರಣಿಗಳನ್ನು ಕನೋಪಿಕ್ ಭರಣಿಗಳು (canopic jars) ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಉದಾಹರಣೆಗೆ - ವಾನರ ಮುಖವನ್ನು ಹೋಲುವ ಹಾಪಿ (HAPY) ಎಂಬ ದೇವತೆಯ ಮುಖವನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿರುವ ಕನೋಪಿಕ್ ಭರಣಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಶ್ವಾಸಕೋಶವನ್ನು(Lungs) ಸಂರಕ್ಷಿಸಿಟ್ಟರೆ, ಮನುಷ್ಯರ ಮುಖವನ್ನು ಹೋಲುವಇಂಸತಿ (IMSETY) ಎಂಬ ದೇವತೆಯ ಮುಖವನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿರುವ ಭರಣಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಯಕೃತ್ತನ್ನು (ಪಿತ್ತ ಜನಕಾಂಗ/Liver) ರಕ್ಷಿಸಿಡಲಾಗುತ್ತಿತ್ತು.
- ಇದಾದ ಬಳಿಕ, ದೇಹದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ನೀರಿನ ಅಂಶವನ್ನು ತೆಗೆದು ದೇಹವನ್ನು ಒಣಗಿಸುವ ಸಲುವಾಗಿ, ನ್ಯಾಟ್ರೋನ್ (natron) ಎಂಬ ಲವಣದ ದ್ರಾವಣದಲ್ಲಿ ದೇಹವನ್ನು ಅದ್ದಿ, ನಂತರ ಒಣಗಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಹೀಗೆ ಒಣಗಿಸಲ್ಪಟ್ಟ ದೇಹಕ್ಕೆ ಕೃತಕ ಕಣ್ಣುಗಳನ್ನು ಹಚ್ಚಲಾಗುತ್ತಿತ್ತು.
- ನಂತರ ಲಿನೆನ್ (linen) ಜಾತಿಯ ದಾರರಿಂದ ತಯಾರಿಸಲ್ಪಟ್ಟ ಪಟ್ಟಿಯಿಂದ ದೇಹವನ್ನು ಸುತ್ತಲಾಗುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಮೃತ ವ್ಯಕ್ತ್ಯಿಯ ಮರಣಾನಂತರದ ಲೋಕಕ್ಕೆ ಮಾಡುವ ಪ್ರಯಾಣದ ಸಂಧರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಅವನಿಗೊದಗಬಹುದಾದ ಎಲ್ಲ ಅನಾಹುತಗಳಿಂದ ಕಾಪಾಡುವ ಸಲುವಾಗಿ ಎಮಲೆಟ್ (amulets) ಗಳೆಂಬ ವಿಶೇಷ ತಾಯತಗಳನ್ನು ಕಟ್ಟಲಾಗುತ್ತಿತ್ತು ಮತ್ತು ಕೆಲವು ಮಂತ್ರಗಳನ್ನು ಈ ಲೆನಿನ್ ದಾರದ ಪಟ್ಟಿಗಳ ಮೇಲೆ ಬರೆಯಲಾಗುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಈ ಎಮಲೆಟ್‌ಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ಕರಬ್ (scarab) ಎಂಬುದು ಈಜಿಫ್ಟಿಯನ್ನರು ಹೆಚ್ಚಾಗು ಬಳಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಒಂದು ಆಭರಣ.
- ಹೀಗೆ ಸುತ್ತಿದ ಮೇಲೆ ಇಡೀ ದೇಹವನ್ನು ಒಂದು ಬಟ್ಟೆಯಿಂದ ಸುತ್ತಿ ನಂತರ ಅದನ್ನು ಲಿನೆನ್ ದಾರದಿಂದ ಬಿಗಿಯಾಗಿ ಕಟ್ಟುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು.
- ಹೀಗೆ ಸಿದ್ಧಪಡಿಸಿದ ಮಮ್ಮಿಗಳನ್ನು ಅವುಗಳಿಗಾಗಿಯೇ ತಯಾರಿಸುವ ವಿಶೇಷವಾದ ಗೋರಿ (ಸಮಾಧಿ) ಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಧರ್ಮ ಗುರುಗಳು ನಡೆಸುವ ವಿಶೇಷ ಪೂಜೆಗಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ಇಡಲಾಗುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಗೋರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮೃತ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯು ಬಳಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಹಲವು ವಸ್ತುಗಳನ್ನೂ, ಒಡವೆಗಳನ್ನೂ, ಆತನ ಚಿತ್ರಗಳನ್ನೂ ಇಡಲಾಗುತ್ತಿತ್ತು.
- ಈ ಗೋರಿಗಳ ಮೇಲೆ ಪಿರಮಿಡ್ಡು ಗಳನ್ನು ಕಟ್ಟುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಮಮ್ಮಿಗಳ ತಯಾರಿಕೆ ತುಂಬ ಖರ್ಚಿನದ್ದಾಗಿರುವುದರಿಂದ ಎಲ್ಲ ಜನ ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯರಿಗೂ ಇದನ್ನು ಮಾಡಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯವಾಗುತ್ತಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಹಾಗಾಗಿ, ಫೆರೆಯೋ ಗಳೆಂದು ಕರೆಯುವ ಪ್ರಾಚೀನ ಈಜಿಫ್ಟಿನ ರಾಜರನ್ನು ಈ ರೀತಿ ಮಮ್ಮಿಗಳನ್ನಾಗಿ ಸಂರಕ್ಷಿಸಿಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು ಎಂದು ನಂಬಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಮನುಷ್ಯರ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಕೆಲವೊಂದು ಪ್ರಾಣಿಗಳನ್ನು ಸಹಾ ಮಮ್ಮಿಗಳ ರೂಪದಲ್ಲಿ ರಕ್ಷಿಸಿಟ್ಟ ಉದಾಹರಣೆಗಳಿವೆ.
