Khrüsza epéKhrüsza epé (görögül: Arany gondolatok), latin nyelven: Carmina aurea, a Kr. e. I - Kr. u. II. század között keletkezett újpitagoreus szentenciagyűjtemény. Az ókorban és a középkorban Püthagorasznak tulajdonították. A szentenciák nevelő célzatúak, általános, gyakorlati életelveket fogalmaznak meg nem túl eredeti módon (pl. „légy tudatában, hogy mindenkinek meg kell halnia"). A szöveg irodalmi értéke igen csekély. Mivel Püthagorasz neve alatt maradt fenn, nagyra becsülték, tanainak kvintesszenciájaként fogadták.

- Főnévként a latin szó általában a latin nyelvre utal. Újlatin nyelvek alatt a nyelvészetben a latinból származó nyelveket szokták érteni.
- Az ősi latinok Közép-Itáliának Latiumként ismert területen éltek. A latin városok legjelentősebbje Róma volt – további részletek a Róma alapítása szócikkben. A mitológia szerint a név Latinus mondabeli király nevéből ered.
- Később a Római Birodalom nyugati felét gyakran emlegették latinként, szemben a görög Kelettel. Ezt a fogalmat használták a Római Katolikus Egyházra és a nyugati utódállamokra is, különösen a keresztes háborúkban meghódítottakra. A konstantinápolyi keresztes királyságot Latin Császárságként emlegették, és a Jeruzsálemi és Akrai Királyságot szintén Latin Királyságnak nevezték.
- Melléknévként a latin szó a Mediterráneum újlatin nyelveket beszélő népeivel kapcsolatban is használatos, például a „Latin-Amerika”, a „latin szerető” vagy a „latin zene” kifejezésekben.
- Latin ábécé alatt a latin eredetű ábécé betűit értjük.

Innocentius II, född Gregorio Papareschi i Rom, död 24 september 1143, var påve 14 februari 1130 – 24 september 1143.
Gregorio Papareschi användes som kardinal (kardinaldiakon av Sant'Angelo) i viktiga uppdrag, bl.a. vid förhandlingarna före konkordatet i Worms 1122. Han valdes 14 februari 1130 av en minoritet bland kardinalerna till påve, under det att majoriteten valde Pietro Pierleoni, som antog namnet Anacletus II. Innocentius måste undan sin motståndare fly till Frankrike och erkändes där samt i England och Tyskland. Lothar återförde Innocentius till Rom 1133, men efter den tyske konungens avtåg måste han fly till Pisa, där han på en synod bannlyste sin motståndare. 1137 företog Lothar ett nytt tåg till Italien och fördrev Anacletus. Sedan denne 1138 avlidit och hans efterträdare, Viktor IV, abdikerat, blev Innocentius allmänt erkänd som påve. Vid Andra Laterankonciliet år 1139 bannlyste han Anacletus och lät fördriva dennes anhängare från Italien.
