Asistencia Asesoría y Administración (AAA) is a Lucha LibreProfessional wrestling promotion based in Mexico. They promote cards throughout Mexico, usually going to suburban areas or places that don't have regular promoters. It is sometimes referred to by the name Promociones Antonio Peña (PAP). It is known for its outlandish gimmicks and characters. They have also broken with some traditions by using predominantly one fall matches and a six sided ring, now used by Total Nonstop Action Wrestling in the United States.
AAA was born on May 15, 1992 when EMLL booker Antonio Peña broke with the company and founded his own company. Along with Konnan, he took much of the young and exciting talent with him, leaving CMLL with a middle-aged roster and a bleak future. AAA also looked for talent from other markets. From Tijuana, they found and signed Rey Mysterio and Psicosis. The promotion flourished with top talent like El Hijo del Santo, Octagón, Blue Panther and the Casas brothers and top draws like Los Gringos Locos, Cien Caras, Konnan, and Perro Aguayo. AAA's rising popularity soon caused rival Universal Wrestling Association to go out of business and Peña was quick to pick their top draws like Canek, (who defeated André the Giant in 1984) Dos Caras and Los Villanos.
The peak of these golden years was the When Worlds CollidePay-Per-View which was promoted in conjunction with WCW and broadcasted in the United States in 1994. Weeks after the show, Art Barr, a key member of Los Gringos Locos, died while visiting his family. The AAA tag titles were vacated and Eddie Guerrero and Louie Spicoli, the other two members of Los Gringos Locos, left the promotion. El Hijo del Santo left due to creative problems and other stars such as Fuerza Guerrera and Blue Panther left when the Mexican economy began to slow down and the company couldn't offer as much work. Many wrestlers also left for WCW, including Rey Misterio, Jr., Psicosis, La Parka, and Juventud Guerrera. In early 1997, AAA had a working agreement with WWE. The only significant outcome was that several luchadores were included in the 1997 Royal Rumble.
Although the talent pool is not as deep as it once was and attendance is generally down (as has been true of most professional wrestling promotions), AAA still sells out big arenas like the legendary Toreo de Cuatro Caminos for their big shows such as Triplemanía and Guerra de Titanes.
AAA is regularly broadcast on Televisa in Mexico and Galavisión in the United States.
