Enontekiö

Enontekiö (pohjoissaamenkielinen nimi Eanodat, ruotsinkielinen nimi: Enontekis) on Suomen kunta, joka sijaitsee Lapin maakunnassa, Lapin läänissä. Kunnassa asuu 1998 ihmistä ja sen pinta-ala on 8463,59 km², josta 413,38 km² on vesistöjä. Väestötiheys on 0,236 asukasta/km². Enontekiön kirkonkylä ja suurin taajama on nimeltään Hetta (pohjoissaameksi Heahtta), ja siellä asuu noin 800 asukasta. Muita väestökeskittymiä ovat muun muassa Kaaresuvanto (Gárasavvon, Gáresavvon) ja Kilpisjärvi (Gilbbesjávri). Kaikki Suomen yli 1 000-metriset huiput ja 60% Suomen tuntureista sijaitsevat Enontekiöllä. Kilpisjärvellä sijaitsee retkeilykeskus sekä muita retkeilypalveluita. Yhteispohjoismainen kalottireitti kulkee Enontekiön kunnan alueiden läpi. Kolmen valtakunnan rajapyykki sijaitsee 10 kilometrin päässä Kilpisjärven kylästä Norjan, Suomen ja Ruotsin rajojen kohtaamispisteessä. Suomen korkein paikka, Halti sijaitsee 50 kilometrin vaellusreitin päässä Kilpisjärveltä. Haltin vieressä on korkein Suomen puolella kokonaan olevista tuntureista, Ridnitsohkka. Halti sijaitsee puoliksi Norjan puolella rajaa.
