Rescue Me is an American TV comedy-drama that premiered on the FX Network in 2004. In Canada the show runs on the Showcase network Tuesdays 10pm ET/PT.
The show began a UK run on Sky One on January 13, 2005. In Australia it began on September 26, 2005, on Fox8. In Spain, it began on October 2005 on cable channel Fox.
A third season has been confirmed for 2006.
Rescue Me stars Denis Leary, who was formerly seen on ABC's cancelled cop show, The Job. The show focuses on the professional and personal lives of New York City firefighters after September 11th, mainly on Tommy Gavin (Leary).
Tommy has to struggle with the loss of his cousin and close friend Jimmy, who died on September 11 and frequently visits him in visions. Season 1 begins with Tommy separated from his wife, and living in an apartment across the street from their house. He is bad-tempered, hypocritical, manipulative and a relapsed alcoholic, all of which make him unusually unsympathetic for a lead character.

Trivia
- The theme song is "C'mon, C'mon" by The Von Bondies.
- Many actors in the show were on The Job, Denis Leary's previous television series.
- Several hockey players have appeared on the show in various roles. The most notable is former Hall of Famer Boston Bruins enforcer Cam Neely.
- In the pilot episode of the show, Leary is seen wearing a Leary Firefighters Foundation 9-11 memorial t-shirt.
- In Episode 2-11, "Bitch", Tommy's hockey helmet is seen with the "W 6" logo on the front. This stands for "Worcester Six", and is a logo created to represent and remember 6 firefighters lost on December 3, 1999, in a warehouse fire in Denis Leary's hometown of Worcester, MA. Among the dead were Leary's cousin, Jerry Lucey, and childhood friend, Lt. Thomas Spencer.
- The series is screened in 16:9 widescreen in the UK and presumably mastered in high definition.

I would like to get some feedback/suggestions for improvement on this article, as I have the impression it is quite complete and stable (and hopefully well-written and interesting). I'm also considering to nominate it as a featured article candidate somewhen down the line and would like your opinions on that... --Fritz Saalfeld 09:35, September 10, 2005 (UTC)
