Dasyuridae

La famille des Dasyuridae a été créée par le zoologiste allemand Georg August Goldfuss (1782-1848) en 1820. Cette famille dont les membres sont généralement appelés souris marsupiales, comprend plusieurs genres tous localisés en Australie.

Georg August Goldfuss

Georg August Goldfuss est un paléontologiste et un zoologiste allemand, né le 18 avril 1782 à Thurnau près de Bayreuth et mort le 2 octobre 1848 à Bonn. Il fait ses études à Erlangen où il reçoit son doctorat en 1804. Il y enseigne la zoologie à partir de 1818. Plus tard, il obtient la chaire de zoologie et de minéralogie de l'université de Bonn. Assisté par le comte G. Munster, il fait paraître Petrefacta Germaniae (1826-1844), un important travail décrivant les fossiles d'invertébrés d'Allemagne. Mais seules les parties décrivant les éponges, les coraux, les crinoïdes, les échinides et une partie des mollusques paraissent. Sarcophilus

Le diable de Tasmanie (Sarcophilus laniarius) (ou sarcophile) est un marsupial carnivore vivant exclusivement sur l'île de Tasmanie. Il est caractérisé par sa fourrure noire, l'odeur forte qu'il dégage lorsqu'il est stressé, son hurlement fort et inquiétant et son tempérament agressif. Sarcophilus laniarius est la seule espèce du genre Sarcophilus.

Sminthopsis

Le genre Sminthopsis comprend une vingtaine d'espèces qu'on appelle communément des souris marsupiales. Ces petits marsupiaux sont en fait des carnivores et sont de redoutables prédateurs à l'appétit féroce. Leur régime alimentaire est essentiellement composé d'insectes.
