Matilde di Canossa

La contessa Matilde di Canossa naque a Mantova nel 1046 e morì il 24 luglio del 1115. Il padre era Bonifacio di Toscana, la madre Beatrice di Lorena.
Nel 1076 entrò in possesso di un vasto territorio che si estendeva dalla Lombardia alla Toscana e che aveva il suo centro a Canossa, nell'Appennino reggiano. Matilde fu una fedele alleata del papa Gregorio VII contro l'imperatore Enrico IV durante la lotta per le investiture che vedeva contrapposta l'autorità della Chiesa a quella dell'Impero e che culminò con l'umiliazione di Canossa del 28 gennaio 1077. Matilde morì nel 1115. Il suo corpo è attualmente sepolto in San Pietro a Roma nella tomba scolpita dal Bernini, unica donna insieme alla regina Cristina di Svezia. Il nonno di Matilde di chiamava Adalberto Atto e fu il capostipite della famiglia degli Attoni. Quando alla morte senza eredi di Matilde il suo possedimento si frantumò, alcuni castelli rimasero in mano ai rami cadetti. Un esempio è quello della famiglia Baratti nel cornigliese (in provincia di Parma) e della famiglia degli Attoni (Jattoni) di Antesica, nel comune attuale di Langhirano (Parma). Categoria:Biografie
