Il settimo grado diventa quindi sensibile, subendo quell'attrazione verso la tonica che manca al settimo grado della scala minore naturale. Tra il sesto e il settimo grado, abbiamo di conseguenza un intervallo di un tono e mezzo.
Questa scala si contraddistingue per la sonorità orientaleggiante e per generare accordi molto interessanti come l'accordo semidiminuito e l'accordo di settima con nona bemolle.
